3 Things you Might Need if You Just Adopted a Dog

October is "Adopt a Shelter Dog" Month and in celebration we put together a list of things you might need if you just adopted a new furry friend! Bringing a new addition into the family is such an exciting time. So you already got the basics and puppy-proofed your house - but don’t forget about these other new pet owner essentials.

  1. Doggy shampoo – New pets can get into everything. And they absolutely love playing outside and getting dirty. That’s why it’s important to make sure you have a good shampoo on hand for when messes and odors get out of control. We love SKINNY & CO. Rescue Skinny Paw It’s made with coconut oil and pure essential oils and safe for use on dogs, cats and even horses. This pet shampoo is 100% chemical free AND 1 bar is equivalent to 3 bottles!

  2. Safe, All-Purpose Cleaner – Every household needs a great all-purpose cleaner. Now that you have a new pup around, cleaning supplies are more important than ever! Make sure your cleaner is safe for your pet by choosing one that’s free from harsh chemicals and is non-hazardous. We recommend the Real Simple Clean Eucalyptus Glass and Surface Cleaner and if you have hardwood floors there is a Real Simple Clean Fresh Citrus Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Keep odor, hair and pet stains at bay with a solid all-purpose cleaner.

  3. Cleaning tools – Hear us out on this one, with your new furry friend around, messes are bound to happen. Overflowing water bowls, slobber, accidents and more— you’re going to need some extra cleaning tools in your arsenal. We love the Scrub Daddy Big Daddy for messes of any shape and size! You can customize the size by cutting the foam to whatever shape or size you need. Messes don’t stand a chance with this powerful scrubber.

Whether you’re a new pet owner or a seasoned pro, it’s always great to have extra supplies on hand. We’re wishing you and your new pup a happy "Adopt a Shelter Dog" Month!
