Fall-ing For DIY
Whether you’re feeling crafty or still in quarantine mode, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite DIY go-to's for you to try. These DIY projects are the perfect fall activity and are simple enough for any skill level. Happy DIY-ing!
Candles
It might seem intimidating at first but making your own candles is actually simple, and you might already have some of the ingredients on hand. All you need is wax, wick and fragrance. We recommend using Sky Organics Organic Beeswax Pellets (available in white and yellow)—the small pellets make the wax easier to handle and to melt. These wax pellets are extremely versatile and work for a variety of other DIY projects (but more on that later!). Buy or re-purpose a glass jar of your choosing and set up your wick. While melting the wax, you can choose to add color or fragrance—we recommend using essential oils. The beauty of making your own candles is customizing the scent to your liking. Pour your melted wax into the jar and allow a few hours for the candle to completely cool and set. Trim the wick to be about a half inch long.
Hand Sanitizer
Making your own hand sanitizer is one of the most practical and trendy DIY projects for the fall. With the supply shortages we saw earlier this year, DIY hand sanitizer is a quick and easy way to protect you and your family from bacteria. The ingredients are simple: isopropyl alcohol (with a concentration of over 91%) and aloe vera. We’re fans of the Sky Organics Aloe Vera Gel which is soothing and enriched with vitamin C for healthy, hydrated skin. Additionally, you can add an essential oil like lavender or tea-tree for fragrance. Repurpose an old hand sanitizer bottle and add in your mixture for on-the-go use.
Hair and Face Masks
It doesn’t have to be Self-Care Sunday for you to indulge in a mask! DIY face and hair masks are fun and easy to make, and did we mention relaxing? Coconut oil is a great base for your mask. We like the SKINNY & CO. Pure Beauty Coconut Oil because it goes through an additional filtration process to remove all impurities, making it 100% non-comedogenic for skin and beauty needs. Coconut oil is super nourishing and moisturizing. Depending on your desired effect, add additional ingredients like vitamin E for a face mask or castor oil for a hair mask. These DIYs are simple and affordable way to treat yourself!
